We’ve had a Miele tank vacuum for years, and my dad had it before that, and it just won’t die. I think it’s over 20 yrs old. Fast forward- I got married, and my wife is not used to tank vacuums, because even with the powerhead (works great on carpets) you still need to move the tank around to avoid bashing the furniture as it tries to follow you when you yank the cord. After 5 years of watching the vacuum survive my wife (who has been secretly hoping it WOULD die), we mounted an exhaustive search of every vacuum on the market to see what kind of upright would pass the very high bar that had been set. The Dysons we tried were unwieldly. The Hoover and Eureka models we looked at were as often as not broken (as demo models), and if they wouldn’t survive life as a demo in a store, they certainly won’t survive my wife. Then, we stumbled across the Miele S7 line, and chose the 7280 as the right blend of features and price in the line (we didn’t really need more electronic controls). Being bright mango red sealed the deal, and I expect we’re going to have this one for a long time. I’m particularly impressed at how well it does the “limbo” to get under furniture, and the suction is impressive. It’s much quieter than the other vacuums we’ve tried (including our prior Miele) and with the HEPA filtration, leaves awesomely clean air in it’s wake. Some reviews I’ve read have mentioned that this vacuum is heavy, but although I will admit it’s not a lightweight, I’d probably use the word “substantial” instead of heavy. It’s well balanced, and feels made to last- the weight is not objectionable.
